BRYAN'S STORY

We celebrate a hero who lives forever

wyatt_edited_edited.jpg

When Bryan was 13-year-old, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor located in an inoperable part of his brain stem, shocking his family who never expected such a challenge. The prognosis gave him only a year to live, a devastating prognosis. Because of the dire situation in Dominican Republic - his home country - when it comes to healthcare and serious conditions, the family took a significant step by moving to the United States for better treatment. Bryan, initially unaware of his condition's severity, was motivated to fight for his life, and he stayed motivated.

During his treatment, Bryan underwent chemotherapy, which partially reduced the tumor but did not eliminate it completely, requiring him to continue medication to prevent seizures. He also had surgery but they couldn’t get everything. Tragically, it was discovered that the tumor had caused irreversible brain cell damage but the medication was helping and he even got into a college in New York City . Bryan outlived his initial prognosis by four years, making it to five years post-surgery. He witnessed many of his friends, who were undergoing similar treatments, pass away, leaving him as one of the few survivors.

Unfortunately, Bryan's battle ended on January 22, 2022. Remembered as disciplined, respectful, and loving, his death deeply affected us his family and his community. I am sharing Bryan’s journey to highlight the struggles and bravery faced by families dealing with pediatric cancer. Childhood cancer does not know color, race, creed, position or affluence. That is why we need to do more to help because it can be any child.. from anywhere at any time.
